Krishna Stories for Kids

Use these short stories for Sunday school, family reading, youth circles, or festival classes. Each story includes a simple lesson and an activity children can do right away.

Ages 5+

Birth of Lord Krishna

Long ago, Krishna appeared in Mathura to bring hope, joy, and protection. His parents, Devaki and Vasudeva, trusted God even during a difficult time. Baby Krishna was carried safely across the Yamuna River to Gokul, where he grew up with love and care.

Lesson

God protects goodness. We can stay brave and truthful even when life feels hard.

Activity

Ask children to draw baby Krishna in a basket crossing the Yamuna.

Ages 6+

Krishna and Putana

Putana came to harm baby Krishna, but Krishna knew the truth in her heart. He protected everyone and freed her from her harmful ways. The people of Gokul learned that Krishna watches over his devotees.

Lesson

Goodness is stronger than danger. We should choose kind thoughts and safe actions.

Activity

Ask: What should we do when something does not feel right or safe?

Ages 6+

Krishna Lifting Govardhan Hill

When heavy rains came to Vrindavan, Krishna lifted Govardhan Hill like an umbrella. The people, cows, and children stood safely under it. Krishna taught everyone to respect nature and trust God.

Lesson

Protect nature, care for others, and have faith during storms.

Activity

Build a paper mountain and write one way to protect nature on it.

Ages 7+

Krishna and Sudama

Sudama was Krishna's childhood friend. He visited Krishna with a humble gift of chipped rice. Krishna welcomed him with great love, showing that true friendship is not measured by money or gifts.

Lesson

Friendship, humility, and love are more valuable than expensive things.

Activity

Ask children to make a thank-you card for a friend.

Ages 4+

Krishna and the Butter Pot

Little Krishna loved butter and played joyfully with his friends. The butter stories remind children of Krishna's sweetness, playfulness, and the loving bond between Krishna, Yashoda Maiya, and the people of Gokul.

Lesson

Joy, sharing, and love make family and community life beautiful.

Activity

Let children decorate a paper butter pot with colors and stickers.

Ages 7+

Krishna and Kaliya Naag

Kaliya Naag polluted the Yamuna River and scared the people. Krishna bravely danced on Kaliya's heads and asked him to leave the river. The water became peaceful again.

Lesson

Courage means helping others and protecting the world around us.

Activity

Ask children: How can we keep water, parks, and temples clean?

After every story, ask kids: What lesson did Krishna teach us?
